Patients - Advance Directives
Greater Regional Medical Center provides each patient with information on advance directives. An advance directive is understood to mean a declaration by a competent adult expressing preferences or instructions regarding health care treatment. Advance directives may include a durable power of attorney for health care, living will, or any reasonable valid written statement by a patient about his or her treatment preferences.
It is Greater Regional Medical Center's policy to honor a patient's preferences regarding indicated health care treatments to the extent permitted by state and federal laws. Greater Regional complies with the Patient Self-Determination Act and will facilitate the process for patients to express their preferences regarding treatment or to designate a representative to act in their behalf. This policy intends to assure that decisions made regarding treatment options are done in keeping with current ethical, legal, and clinical standards.
If you would like further information and/or assistance in implementing an advance directive, please contact our Case Manager at 641-782-3827.
