SPORTS MEDICINE is a branch of medicine that includes a broad team of health care professionals who work with all aspects of injuries and illneses related to sport, exercise, or recreational activity.
ATHLETIC TRAINING is included within the sports medicine team. Athletic training encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and intervention of emergent, acute and chronic medical conditions. Athletic training is practiced by athletic trainers, specialized health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to optimize the activity and sports participation.
Our Sports Medicine team includes Chris Leonard and Kelsi Huseman, Athletic Trainers and and William Ralston, DO, orthopaedic surgeons at Greater Regional Medical Center.
Chris Leonard is a nationally certified athletic trainer, licensed in the state of Iowa and a certified strength and conditioning specialist. He is a graduate of Iowa State University with degrees in Animal Science and Athletic Training. His athletic training assignments while at ISU included football, men's track and field, men's hockey and Ames High School. Before joining the Greater Regional team, Chris worked at Waco High School in Texas as an athletic trainer and also worked as an athletic training intern with the Dallas Cowboys.
Kelsi Huseman is a nationally certified athletic traininer, licensed in the state of Iowa. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a MS degree in AthleticTraining. She also holds degrees in sports management and physical education and administration. While at UNO, Kelsi completed clinical rotations with the Creighton men and women's basketball teams and at Westside High School. After graduation, she interned for one year at Northwest Missouri State and covered football and men and women's track. Before joining the Greater Regional team. Kelsi worked in Kansas City at Winnetonka High School covering all sports.
Ronald Charles, MD
