Greater Regional Volunteer Services provide multiple opportunities and there is sure to be a volunteer program of special interest to you!
Greater Regional Medical Center Auxiliary - Volunteers assist with a variety of projects sponsored by the Auxiliary.
Hospice Volunteers - Trained hospice volunteers provide support and care to terminally ill patients and their families, usually in their own homes. These volunteers work close to home in an 8-county area that includes Adair, Adams, Clarke, Decatur, Madison, Ringgold, Taylor, and Union Counties. Hospice volunteers are required to participate in hospice-specific training prior to a volunteer assignment. These volunteers may also provide grief support to a survivor following the death of a loved one. Greater Regional Hospice has trained over 400 volunteers since its inception in 1981.
Informational Guide Services- Trained volunteers personally greet and guide patients and visitors as they arrive at Greater Regional Medical Center. While visits to the medical center may sometimes be stressful.... our friendly volunteers help reduce that stress by welcoming and then confidently guiding individuals to appointments, tests, therapy sessions, or other departments as needed.
SHIIP - (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) volunteers assist seniors with questions about Medicare supplement insurance, long-term care insurance, claims, benefits, etc. For more information about SHIIP, click here.
Tours - Trained volunteers provide guided group tours of the medical center and its departments to visiting groups from schools and other organizations.
Clerical Volunteers - Volunteers assist in various departments by stocking, filing, typing, shredding, copying, mailing and performing a variety of other clerical duties. Volunteers also label, update, and recycle magazines throughout the medical center each month. Community residents donate their previously enjoyed magazines for this purpose.
Plant Care & Gardening - Volunteers care for all of the indoor plants at Greater Regional Medical Center while outdoor gardening volunteers prepare and plant flower beds around the facility each spring, and provide general clean up in the fall. Area residents donate extra or divided plants for use in the medical center's landscaping.
Sewing - Several volunteers who sew or do craft work keep the medical center and patients supplied with baby hats and blankets, quilted lap robes, walker stow bags, bath mitts, scarves, and turbans.
