The Check Up - March 30, 2020

What's going on at Greater Regional:

Greater Regional Health has organized a team of leaders, physicians and subject matter experts focused on providing consistent direction and information for our hospital and clinics. This group is meeting regularly to quickly educate and disseminate information as needed, provide consistent direction and maximize GRH’s resources. We also continue to partner closely with Iowa Department of Public Health and remain aligned with CDC recommendations.

COVID-19 is a global pandemic, and as a health care system, we have a responsibility to deliver the best care possible to the people who need us the most. At the same time, employees, providers and patient safety is our top priority. Therefore, we have rigorous policies and procedures in place to prevent the spread of infectious disease within our hospital and clinics, such as wearing gloves, gowns, masks and other protective gear, when caring for patients with certain infections. These same procedures are very carefully followed when caring for a patient with COVID-19 in the United States.

Effective March 25th, visitors are not allowed unless the visitor is a designated caregiver and the patient falls into one of four categories: the patient is imminently dying, the patient is an infant or small child, the patient is suffering from confusion or delirium, or the patient is in active labor. Designated care givers must be free of any signs of illness. Individuals at high risk for severe disease should not visit.

Currently, all patients must enter the facility through the main entrance. As they enter, they will be screened by a healthcare professional. Screening consists of taking temperatures, asking travel questions, and the purpose of their visit. At this point, the patient will be escorted to the area they need to go. This routine will be for scheduled and nonscheduled visits.

Some routine visits may be rescheduled at this time. Our staff will notify patients if their appointments change.

At this moment, all well appointments will be seen in the Primary Care Clinic upstairs of the Medical Arts Plaza. All patients that present with a fever or sickness will be treated in the Urgent Care Clinic. Greater Regional Health’s main priority is patient safety and proceeding with distinguishing well clinics and sick clinics will help contain spread of germs.

Greater Regional is now accepting hand sewn masks as an option for our patients and staff to use. If you would like to help donate or make masks, please click here for more information on how you can help.
