Patient Safety and Infection Prevention Remains Top Priority at Greater Regional Health

As a country, state, and county we continue through these pandemic circumstances and the changing of everyday norms. At Greater Regional Health we want to reassure our patients and their loved ones that our number one priority remains employee and patient safety.

During this ever-changing time of uncertainty Greater Regional Health wants to ensure the public that infection prevention is always a top initiative for our facility. Our infection prevention team at Greater Regional Health bought our first UV Light Sanitizer in 2013 to clean our surgery rooms, operating rooms, and patient care rooms. The UV Light Sanitizer kills top common viral and bacterial infections. This UV Light Sanitizer is an extra step Greater Regional Health takes in disinfecting rooms within our facility.

Since 2013, we have added 3 large UV Light Sanitizers to our Surgery department, patient care floors, and Emergency rooms. The Emergency Preparedness team, in conjunction with Infection Prevention added an additional 11 portable UV Light Sanitizers that are found in our Rural Health Clinics, Medical Arts Plaza, and other areas of the Medical Center. In April 2020, Greater Regional Health was excited to receive 17 MRSA UV Sanitizer Caddies to sanitize cell phones, tablets and non-critical patient care items.

In partnership with Union County Public Health, Greater Regional Health was able to donate UV Lights to Union County Schools to help sanitize classrooms and highly trafficked areas. Staff from our Infection Prevention team and Union County Public Health Nurse were able to train and educate the schools systems on proper use and best practices.

At Greater Regional Health our own infection prevention initiatives within our facility and Rural Health Clinics start with our own Environmental Services (EVS) staff as they continue to sanitize following CDC guidelines. High touch surface areas are disinfected with each shift, intense/proactive cleaning is being done daily, along with additional cleaning projects. With any possible infectious disease, including COVID-19 precautions, our EVS staff completes an industrial clean to the area which involves hand washing walls, all surfaces within the area, and floors with an EPA approved Oxycide daily disinfectant cleaner.

Our entire staff at Greater Regional Health is involved in keeping our campus here in Creston and at our Rural Health Clinics safe. Our screeners on the Creston campus at the Main Entrance are taking temperatures and asking routine questions about health status and travel. As you are getting screened, we encourage each patient to take a homemade mask during their visit within our facility to ensure your safety and the safety of our staff. You will also notice new social distancing regulations when entering our waiting rooms, please adhere to keeping your social distance when registering and waiting for your appointment. At Greater Regional Health we appreciate your participation in this new routine.
