Billing & Financial Information

Greater Regional Health understands that health care billing can be complex and difficult to comprehend at times. A billing statement is a summary of the services and supplies used for patient care. 

Greater Regional Patient Accounts personnel will submit patient bills to the respective insurance companies. Please remember hospitalization and other services you may receive from Greater Regional Health are part of a contract between you and your insurance company.

While Greater Regional is happy to work with a patient's insurance company, the patient receiving services from Greater Regional Health is ultimately responsible for their account. Be sure to bring in all health insurance cards when receiving services at Greater Regional. 

Greater Regional Health offers a variety of payment plans for services. MasterCard, Discover, American Express and Visa are also accepted. All patient billing will come from Greater Regional and TruBridge is our statement and depository service that helps Greater Regional manage its patient accounts.

Patient Charges and Cost

Beginning January 1, 2019, the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) require hospitals to be more transparent regarding the cost of care. This "Inpatient Prospective Payment System Final Rule" states that hospitals must provide a listing of their current standard charges, including a description for the item or service associated with each charge, for every item and service provided by the hospital. 

Greater Regional Health is a 5-star quality hospital as rated by Medicare Compare and is accredited by DNV.  We take great pride that our services are competitively priced and financial assistance is available to patients in need.

At Greater Regional Health we recognize the need for this information to be available to educate our patients on the cost of health care service. However, it is important to note that these numbers do not represent what patients will actually owe after a hospital stay or other service.

Click here for a list of our standard charges, also known as our charge master. Charge masters have evolved over many decades and are difficult to read. Though they are used to bill insurance companies, they are only loosely related to the amount a patient will pay for the service. This is because insurance companies have negotiated discounts and because uninsured patients are given large (30% in 2021) discounts from standard charges. (SHIIP) Senior Health Insurance Information Program

The SHIIP program is a free, objective information service provided by peer volunteers trained by the Iowa Department of Insurance who assist patients, families and staff in:

  • Understanding Medicare benefits

  • Organizing medical bills, Medicare statements, and filing Medicare claims

  • Providing information on long-term care insurance policies

  • Comparing and evaluating Medicare supplement policies & drug plans

  • Recognizing Medicare fraud and abuse
