Respiratory Care

Respiratory care therapy provides treatment and testing for all types of breathing diseases and disorders. Respiratory therapy offers diagnostic testing including pulmonary function testing, EEG's, EKG's and arterial blood gases. Respiratory Care personnel will also assist in arranging for home oxygen and breathing equipment and sleep studies. 

Respiratory care is a health care occupation comprised of respiratory therapists who, under physician supervision, are trained to actively participate in the care of patients, especially the monitoring and treatment of cardiopulmonary function. The practice of respiratory care encompasses activities in the areas of diagnosis, therapeutics, administration and education. 

Clinical services provided include mechanical ventilation, continuous positive airway pressure, bi-level positive airway pressure, airway management, delivery of aerosolized medications, bronchopulmonary hygiene, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, oxygen administration, patient consultation, discharge planning and education, and other clinical aspects of respiratory care. 

Diagnostic services provided include; pulmonary function testing, sleep studies, medicated aerosol delivery, arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, electrocardiograms, electroencephalograms, and other diagnostic aspects of respiratory care.

Respiratory Care is a support service working with physician clinics, nursing, the emergency department, and other hospital areas to deliver the most "state of the art" health care available to patients being cared for at Greater Regional Medical Center.
