December 5th is recognized globally as International Volunteer Day, a day dedicated to celebrating the impact and contributions of volunteers around the world. Established by the United Nations in 1985, this day serves as a recognition of the selfless efforts of individuals who dedicate their time and skills to help others.
Greater Regional Health is proud to be an organization that promotes volunteerism in our community. We believe that volunteering is not only a way to give back but also a vital component in fostering a strong, interconnected community. By encouraging individuals to engage in volunteer activities, we aim to create opportunities for personal growth, social interaction, and community improvement.
Our Volunteers
At Greater Regional Health, we offer a diverse range of volunteer opportunities that cater to different interests and skill sets. From assisting in health education programs to supporting patient care services, our volunteers play a crucial role in enhancing the overall experience for patients and their families. We also provide training and resources to ensure that our volunteers feel equipped and confident in their roles.
Our volunteers welcome patients upon their arrival at the facility, assist them in locating their destinations, guide community members interested in the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP), and manage the Greater Regional Auxiliary Gift Shop.
Through their volunteer work, Greater Regional Health Volunteers are essential to our organization's influence and reach within the community.
"Our volunteers are our heartbeat of our hospital. They bring comfort, hope and kindness to our patients. They greet every person with a smile, lend an ear to those who need it most, and remind us daily that healing begins with compassion." - Jordan Crawford, Volunteer Services Coordinator
Our Employees in the Community
Greater Regional Health employees volunteer for a number of events and community happenings throughout the year, showcasing their commitment to not only healthcare but also to the well-being of the communities they serve. These events reflect the organization's values and the importance of community involvement. The range of activities in which employees participate includes:
Greater 8 & 5k: Employees often take part as runners, organizers, and cheerleaders, encouraging healthy lifestyles and community engagement.
Uptown Cleanup (Sponsored by Union County Development Association): Employees roll up their sleeves to help clean and beautify the Creston Uptown. This event not only helps improve the aesthetics of the community but also instills a sense of pride among residents, as they see their local environment being cared for and maintained.
Adopt-A-Highway: Employees volunteer their time to participate in this program, which aims to keep highways clean and safe. Picking up litter along designated stretches of Highway 25, they promote a cleaner, healthier landscape for everyone who travels through the area.
Union County Fair Kids Day: This event is dedicated to the youth of the community, offering a day filled with fun activities, games, and educational opportunities. Employees engage with children and families.
Holiday Parades & Events: Throughout the year, Greater Regional Health employees participate in various parades and festive activities.
Community Schools Events: Employees also lend their support to local schools by volunteering at events such as fundraisers and educational programs. This involvement not only enriches the students' experiences but also strengthens the bond between Greater Regional Health and local schools.
We are thankful for our selfless employees and their unwavering dedication to patients and our community. Their commitment goes beyond the walls of GRH, as they consistently strive to make a positive impact in various aspects of community life.
