Flu and Respiratory Illnesses on the Rise
Union County and surrounding communities are seeing a rise in flu and respiratory illnesses with children and adults. Greater Regional Health and Union County Public Health would like to share some tips and resources to keep everyone happy and healthy before the busy holiday season.
Tips to Stay Healthy
Get your flu shot.
Stay away from those that are sick.
Cover your coughs and sneezes.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
Clean surfaces that may be contaminated.
Tips if You are Feeling Sick
Get plenty of rest and fluids.
Consult your provider if you or your family members are sick and you are worried about their illness. Flu symptoms can include: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and fatigue. Some may experience vomiting and diarrhea, which is more common in children than adults.
Take antiviral drugs if prescribed by your provider, they can help alleviate the symptoms and shorten the duration of the disease. They can also prevent severe flu complications such as pneumonia.
If sick, limit your contact with other people as much as possible.
Stay home until at least 24 hours after your fever is gone-except to receive medical care or other needs.
The flu is contagious disease that can be severe. Remember to get your flu shot, avoid close contact with sick people, and take antiviral drugs if your provider prescribes them.
